How to Enjoy Your Outdoor Living Space This Spring
About 86% of newly built homes in the South have a porch or patio. Here in Georgia, we love our outdoor living space so much, we have full festivals dedicated to them. Each year the Oakhurst Porchfest brings together hundreds of homes patios and bands for one of the largest homegrown music festivals in the country.
You don’t have to host a concert to enjoy your outdoor living space, though. Now is the perfect time to get creative and find new ways to enjoy the fresh spring air on your patio.
Try these ideas, and enjoy your patio space.
Add More Lighting
The days may be getting longer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from more lighting. Add soft accent lighting or ambient light to create a relaxed atmosphere. This will also enable you to continue to use your patio after the sun sets.
Try adding some string lights, pendant lights, or wall sconces. These will create a soft light that illuminates the space without being too harsh. Stick with warmer bulbs in the 3000K range.
Cook Outdoors
Whether you have a grill or a full outdoor kitchen, cooking outside adds delicious flavor and enables you to enjoy your patio more. Prep the food inside, and then everyone can head outdoors for cooking and eating.
You can stick with the classics like grilled steak, chicken, fish, and vegetables. But don’t be afraid to get adventurous. You could make pizza or grilled fruit. Two popular and delicious treats are grilled peaches and watermelon.
Create a Living Space
If you want to spend more time outdoors, then you need to make the outside and comfortable as the inside of your custom home. Look for comfy furniture that’s designed for outdoor use. Consider the amount of outdoor space you have.
A small patio idea would be having a few large chairs and side tables. A larger patio design idea would be adding a couch and a long coffee table in front of it.
If you have a very large patio, try dividing the space up into different uses. One area could be for dinging with a table and chairs. Then another area is for lounging with a couch and fire pit.
Add a Fire Pit
One of the most popular backyard patio ideas is to add a fire pit. This gives you a centralized place to gather as a family. It’ll take that last chill out of the spring night air and provide a soft glow of light.
You can purchase a small fire pit that you could move around. Or you could build a more substantial one out of brick or blocks.
Enjoy Your Outdoor Living Space
When is the last time you’ve ventured into your backyard outdoor living space? Spring is the perfect time to spruce this area up and create a space that you and your family will love to use. Start by making it comfortable and inviting with the right lighting and furniture.
Then give the space purpose with a grill, kitchen, or fire pit. Before you know it, you’ll be spending more time outside than in.
